lichens on extensive green roofs : Cladonia evapotranspiration , substrate temperature , and albedo

چکیده
Green roofs are constructed ecosystems that provide ecosystem services in urban environments. Shallow substrate green roofs subject the vegetation layer to desiccation and other environmental extremes, so researchers have evaluated a variety of stress-tolerant vegetation types for green roof applications. Lichens can be found in most terrestrial habitats. They are able to survive extremely harsh conditions, including frequent cycles of desiccation and rehydration, nutrient-poor soil, fluctuating temperatures, and high UV intensities. Extensive green roofs (substrate depth <20cm) exhibit these harsh conditions, making lichens possible candidates for incorporation into the vegetation layer on extensive green roofs. In a modular green roof system, we tested the effect of lichens on substrate temperature, water loss, and Cladonia albedo compared to a substrate-only control. Overall, the modules Cladonia had significantly cooler substrate temperatures during the summer and significantly warmer temperatures during the fall. Additionally, the Cladonia modules lost significantly less water than the substrate-only control. This implies that they may be able to benefit neighboring vascular plant species by reducing water loss and maintaining favorable substrate temperatures. Green schools are a new type of school, in which the use of renewable energy is less than that of conventional schools. In this regard, nowadays, adding green layers to the roof of schools, in addition to increasing the Students' communication with nature, energy saving has improved in these spaces. However, to improve energy saving yield, the priority of these types of roofs in different clima...

BACKGROUND Green roofs perform ecosystem services such as summer roof temperature reduction and stormwater capture that directly contribute to lower building energy use and potential economic savings. These services are in turn related to ecosystem functions performed by the vegetation layer such as radiation reflection and transpiration, but little work has examined the role of plant species c...
متن کاملEnergy Conservation Potential of an Extensive Green Roof in Iran for One Year Duration
The temperature of cities continues to increase because of the heat island phenomenon and the undeniable climatic change. The observed high ambient temperatures intensify energy problems in cities, deteriorates comfort conditions, put in danger the vulnerable population and amplify the pollution problems. There are some suggested ways to reduce these issues, among them vegetated roofs are shown...
